    More About Omnipure KDF/GAC Inline Water Filters and Filter Media;
    Taste and Odor Reduction using KDF and GAC Medias.
    Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) has long been utilized to reduce impurities in potable water. It is widely recognized for its adsorption capacity plus its ability to reduce dissolved organics and chemicals such as chlorine. These and other impurities can cause undesirable taste, odor and color in water. Omnipure offers several choices of GAC for use in any filter body. Standard choices include 20x50 mesh, used in most conventional instances, and acid washed activated carbon which is used in specific situations where highly polished filtered water is required. Specialized carbon selections are also available.

    KDF water filtration media is a high-purity alloy of both copper and zinc, used in a flaked or granulated particulate form. Usually appearing gold or brass in color. KDF is known to kill algae and fungi, control bacteria growth, and remove chlorine, pesticides, organic matter, rust, unpleasant taste and odor, hydrogen sulfide, iron, lead, nickel, chromium, cadmium, calcium, aluminum, mercury, arsenic, and other organic compounds. KDF has a wide spread of effectiveness against a large number of impurities in water. KDF is optimized when used in conjunction with another filter media, especially any form of Activated carbon (whether in block OR granulated form). KDF is regarded as being one of the newer developments in water treatment and filtration, since its development in 1984, it has grown to be widely regarded as one of the best filtration medias available.
